Cable Bahamas launches it's broadband internet service on Eleuthera, Spanish Wells and Harbour Island. After a few years of waiting internet users now have a high speed, reliable internet service. The new service known as Coral Wave is welcomed here.

March 20, 2000

Work begins on a new telecommunications tower located at the Batelco property. Atop this tower will be antennae for improved cellular and regular telephone service. Photographs can be found in the Picture Gallery. Work on this project was completed with antennae installed on March 30, 2000.

 

March 16, 2000

Today a small whale was found beached on a shallow sand bar off the north coast of Royal Island. Thanks to the efforts of George Sweeting, Ivanhoe Sweeting, Will Passano and others the whale was saved and is now back in the Atlantic Ocean. Pictures of the whale and successful rescue are posted in the Picture Gallery on this site.

March 10, 2000

A large whale beached itself off the town of Lower Bogue, North Eleuthera and perished. Photos are posted in the Picture Gallery.

November 9, 1999

Radio station Splash 89.9 FM is on the air. This station features music and news for Spanish Wells and the Eleuthera area. Congratulations and best wishes to Chris Forsythe in his new venture.

October 1, 1900

Spanish Wells gets it's first photo processing store. Magic Photo is open 6 days per week and offers one hour photo service. Congratulations to Raymond Albury on the start of this new venture.

July 28, 1999

Bahamas Fast Ferries began operation of it's daily scheduled ferry service between Nassau and Spanish Wells and then on to Harbour Island. Spanish Wells is Gung Ho about this service which is quite dependable as breakdowns are a rarity.
